Yes. It uses an HD44780 compatible controller, so the standard 4-bit and 8-bit character LCD libraries work without changes, and the pinout follows the usual 14 or 16 pin arrangement.
What voltage does the 8x2 module run on?
5 V is the standard logic supply. A 3.3 V build can be made for production orders, and the white LED backlight series resistor is set for the supply rail you use.
How is the contrast set on the 8x2 display?
The VO pin sets the LCD bias. A 10 kilohm trimmer wired between VDD and VSS with the wiper to VO is the usual arrangement, and it needs adjusting once at assembly for the viewing angle you want.
When is an 8x2 display the right choice?
When the panel only has to show a short value or status, an 8x2 keeps the module outline and cost to a minimum. If you need longer labels, the 16x2 or 20x2 formats are more practical.
